Flutter By Butterfly

‘O fine-looking butterfly, your hues are most bright

as you meander and dip and flit by and by –

your grace and coquettishness obvious in flight

You wander, I wonder and think with a sigh…..

But trust me, sweet mystery of the most beautiful insect

I hold out my hand and beckon you land

your fragility I know and unquestionably respect

I hold my breath your stillness unplanned.

I look at your brilliance of colors…..so grand!

the song in your throat is something not heard

what you are…IS… one cannot demand

to capture and hold would be absurd!

So, I gently nudge you back into the air

as you stretch your wings and fly away

I look away and pause with a prayer

that you seek me out another day.
